The Arts Council, along with the Baxley/Appling County Board of Tourism and the Appling County Development Authority have joined efforts again this year to sponsor part 2 of a musical play by local playwright, Laurie Jo Upchurch. The title of the play is "in the Pines, Part2: Reflections. The Play will be held November 6-8, 2015. There will be two evening performances and two matinees.
"In the Pines" is the story of the people of Appling County and counties of the wiregrass region of southeastern Georgia. It portrays the whole gambit of historical, economic, and musical experiences on the land that made them the people they are today.
There will be several auxiliary displays, exhibits, and demonstrations in the schools and throughout the community: A presentation/reenactment of Caroline Miller/Lamb in His bosom by Joye Cauthen, great-niece of Caroline Miller: tours of Moody Swamp, Creek Indian culture; demonstrations of making cedar shakes, cane grinding, washing clothes, and planting practices for tobacco, cotton, and other crops that were part of our ecology/economy.
