Appling County Stockman's Association
The Appling County Stockman's Association will be sponsoring the 2020 Market Hog Show and Sale for the youth of our county March 2, 2020. Our hog show has 40 participants this year (A 140% increase from last year). Our UGA Extension office has worker countless hours promoting the show and the numbers show their hard work. This will also be our first show in the brand new multi-purpose Agriculture Center beside the Middle School.
Our livestock youth have worked hard in raising and caring for their pig(s) since October. Raising a show pig gives our youth valuable experience in record keeping, work ethic, production agriculture, finance, and teaches responsibility. Success in the show ring requires a lot of time and dedication. Many of these youth and their families have spent over 300 hours working with their animals and have traveled thousands of miles to shows across the state. We're proud to have had two class winners, multiple youth that placed top ten in class, a showmanship champion, and a reserve champion from Appling County in multi-state shows held in Georgia.
Showing livestock requires a significant financial investment. The auction held at the county hog show gives exhibitors the chance to recoup some of those expenses. For many exhibitors the money received at the auction provides the financial means to exhibit livestock the following year.
The Stockman's Association would like to invite you to come out for the show beginning at 3:00om at the Appling County Multi-purpose Agriculture Center Monday, March 2nd, 2020. A 4-H snack bar will be available so you can eat while you watch the show. The auction will begin at 6:00pm.
A percentage of the auction sales goes toward awarding a scholarship. This iwll be the 17th year a student will be awarded a scholarship for having the most show points earned. We encourage you to come and see which exhibitor will win.
We look forward to having you come out and support Appling County youth by purchasing a hog and the youth appreciate your support. Young people who raise livestock today become leaders of tomorrow. Please remember any donation for the youth livestock projects is tax deductible.
